About OCR
OCR (optical character recognition) analyzes the shapes in an image and converts them into machine-readable text. This tool is powered by the open source Tesseract.js library (Apache 2.0 license), a WebAssembly port of the Tesseract OCR engine, so recognition runs directly in your browser.
For the best results, use a sharp image with good contrast between the text and the background. The first run downloads the recognition model for the selected language (a few megabytes), which is then cached by your browser.
To extract text from a digital PDF, use the PDF to Text tool instead.
